Reverse Osmosis System Installation

Reverse osmosis systems can require several connections beneath the kitchen sink, including the mains cold-water supply, filtered-water tap and waste pipe. Pumped and many modern tankless systems may also require a nearby electrical supply.

I install customer-supplied reverse osmosis systems from a wide range of manufacturers and can check the installation requirements before your appointment.

As an independent installer, I'm not tied to one particular water filter manufacturer. You can choose the RO system that best suits your requirements and book me to install it.

Already bought your RO system?

Send me the make and model, along with a few photos of the space and pipework underneath your kitchen sink, and I'll check what's required.

Reverse Osmosis Installation From £175

Reverse osmosis installation typically starts from £175, with the final price depending on the system, your existing plumbing and the work required.

Some installations may involve drilling the sink or worktop for a dedicated drinking-water tap, connecting the RO waste line, making small cupboard alterations or running pipework or power into an adjoining cupboard.

Send me the make and model of your RO system along with a few photos underneath your kitchen sink and I can check what's involved and provide a quote.

How Much Does Reverse Osmosis Installation Cost?

1. Cold Water Connection

The RO system is connected to the mains cold-water supply using suitable fittings and an isolation valve where required.

What's Involved in a Reverse Osmosis Installation

2. Waste Water Connection

Reverse osmosis systems produce a waste-water stream which normally needs to be connected to the sinks waste pipe.

3. Drinking Water Tap

A dedicated filtered-water tap can be fitted to the sink or worktop, or some systems can be connected to a compatible 3-way kitchen tap.

4. Electrical Connection

Many tankless and pumped RO systems require a nearby electrical supply. I'll check the system requirements and available socket location before installation.

5. System Commissioning

Once installed, the connections are checked for leaks and the system is commissioned in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Drilling Your Sink or Worktop for an RO Tap

Many reverse osmosis systems include a dedicated drinking-water tap which needs to be installed through the kitchen sink or worktop.

Where required, I can drill suitable materials to create the opening for the supplied RO tap. The exact method depends on the sink or worktop material and the tap supplied with the system.

Some sinks and worktops, such as quartz and solid wood, require more specialist drilling and can take longer to complete than standard materials such as chipboard worktops.

Already Have a Spare Tap Hole?

If your sink or worktop already has a suitable unused tap hole, this can often be used for the RO drinking-water tap, avoiding the need to drill a new opening.

Water Pressure & Pumped Reverse Osmosis Systems

Water pressure is important when choosing a reverse osmosis system. Every RO system has its own minimum and recommended incoming water pressure.

Non-pumped systems rely more heavily on the property's mains water pressure. If the pressure is too low, water production may be slower and the system may not perform as intended.

Many modern tankless RO systems include an internal booster pump, while some traditional systems can use a separate booster pump where required.

Before Buying an RO System, Check:

  • Minimum inlet pressure

  • Recommended operating pressure

  • Whether a booster pump is included

  • Whether an additional pump can be fitted

  • Electrical requirements

Not sure? Send me the model you're considering and I can check the basic installation requirements before you buy it.

Where Can a Reverse Osmosis System Be Installed?

Most domestic reverse osmosis systems are installed inside the kitchen sink cupboard, providing convenient access to the mains cold-water supply, sink waste and drinking-water tap.

Depending on the system and available cupboard space, the unit may also be installed in an adjoining kitchen cupboard. Some larger systems or systems with storage tanks require more space than compact tankless models.

If you're unsure whether a system will fit, send me the model along with a few photos and approximate measurements of the space beneath your sink.

Reverse Osmosis Installation FAQs

How long does reverse osmosis installation take?

Most reverse osmosis installations take around 2–4 hours, although more complex installations can take longer. The time required depends on the system, existing plumbing and whether drilling, waste connections or cupboard alterations are required.

Can you install an RO system I've bought myself?

Yes. I specialise in installing customer-supplied water filtration systems. Send me the make and model before booking so I can check the installation requirements.

Can you tell me if an RO system will fit before I buy it?

Yes. Send me the make and model you're considering along with photos and approximate measurements of the space underneath your kitchen sink. I can check the basic installation requirements before you order it.

Does a reverse osmosis system need electricity?

Some do and some don't. Many modern tankless and pumped RO systems require a nearby electrical supply, while some traditional non-pumped systems operate without electricity.

Does an RO system need a waste connection?

Most reverse osmosis systems produce a waste-water stream and therefore require a connection to the sink waste. The exact arrangement depends on the system and existing plumbing.

Will you need to drill my sink or worktop?

If the system uses a dedicated drinking-water tap, a suitable hole may need to be drilled through the sink or worktop. If a suitable spare tap hole already exists, this can often be used instead.

Can an RO system connect to a 3-way kitchen tap?

Many RO systems can be connected to a compatible 3-way kitchen tap, allowing hot, cold and filtered drinking water to be supplied from one tap. Compatibility should be checked before installation.

What brands of reverse osmosis systems do you install?

I install systems from many manufacturers including Waterdrop, Osmio, Frizzlife, iSpring, Aquaphor, Finerfilters and Geekpure. If yours isn't listed, send me the model and I'll check it.
